Your race is the heart of your character. It is who they are at their core. Their thoughts, feelings, and upbringing are influenced by their race. This week we’ll be taking a look into the races of D&D and how they shape your character. Today we’ll be talking about gnomes.
If halflings are the small version of humans, then gnomes are the small version of humans. Of course there’s so much more to them than that. Gnomes are tricksters, relying on their finesse both in their movements and their words. For being so little, they have some of the biggest personalities of any race. There’s a reason there’s so many gnome bards! They always try to get out into the world and live life to the fullest.
Gnomes come in two varieties: forest and rock. The forest gnomes are more in touch with nature, living in forests where druidic magic matches their own. These gnomes have a strong bond with nature, allowing them to speak with animals. This is a very strong choice if you’re looking into a hunter or druid. The other variety of gnomes is the rock gnome. These gnomes love to tinker, creating gadgets that act as magical constructs. These gnomes tend to lean more towards arcane magic, though they’re suitable for just about any character concept.
Overall, gnomes are a really fun race. They can fit in a large variety of character concepts, from bards to rogues and everything in between. Their boisterous disposition makes them a welcome addition to any party looking for fun. What character will you create? Will it be a gnome, or one of the other races that we’ll cover this week? Let me know in the comments below. Until then, keep those dice rolling high!
