Your race is the heart of your character. It is who they are at their core. Their thoughts, feelings, and upbringing are influenced by their race. This week we’ll be taking a look into the races of D&D and how they shape your character. Today we’ll be talking about lizardfolk.
Lizardfolk are exactly what you think…lizard men. They’re similar to dragonborn, but with lizards. As such, their mind sets are very different. They live as a cold blooded, instinct driven species. In roleplay, this translates to a detachment to their emotions, deferring them to their instincts. They don’t see scary things as frightening, but rather threatening to their survival. Conversely, they see allies and friends as people they should protect, so that they can ensure their survival later.
Lizardfolk see themselves as superior to humans and other more squishy races, for they weren’t gifted with armored skin like them. They almost pity them. In the case of allies, this triggers a protective response. The lizardfolk provides protection for those that he deems unable to protect themselves. This makes them fierce allies, though their emotions may not show as much.
If an alien like being with a utilitarian way of viewing the world sounds like an interesting character to play, then lizardfolk may be the race for you! What character will you create? Will it be a lizardfolk, or one of the other races that we’ve covered? Let me know in the comments below. Until then, keep those dice rolling high!
