Your race is the heart of your character. It is who they are at their core. Their thoughts, feelings, and upbringing are influenced by their race. This week we’ll be taking a look into the races of D&D and how they shape your character. Today we’ll be talking about goliaths.
Goliaths are a mountainous people. They have skin that is almost stone like, and they stand taller than any race, reaching up to 8 feet tall. This colossal size comes with an athleticism and competitiveness to match. Goliaths live for challenge and sport. They love a good fair fight, sometimes to a fault. They won’t needlessly risk their life, but they will offer their opponent a fair fighting chance. Even if that opponent is in the middle of trying to kill them.
Goliaths believe in survival of the strongest. They will cast out one of their own if they feel that he is not up to snuff. Arguments often end in physical fights between goliaths, settling on who’s the victor. This tends to lead goliaths down a more physical, violent path. But that doesn’t mean an adventuring goliath can’t choose to be something like a bard or wizard. Whatever the goliath chooses to do with their life, you can be sure that they will strive to be the best at that.
Goliath heroes can make for some foolhardy yet fun characters to play. What character will you create? Will it be a goliath, or one of the other races that we’ve covered? Let me know in the comments below. Until then, keep those dice rolling high!
