Your race is the heart of your character. It is who they are at their core. Their thoughts, feelings, and upbringing are influenced by their race. This week we’ll be taking a look into the races of D&D and how they shape your character. Today we’ll be talking about Tieflings.
Tieflings are devilish beings, due to a deal that has haunted them for generations. Generations ago, in a bid for power, a deal was struck with Asmodeus, lord of the Nine Hells. This pact has left the deal makers and their subsequent generations with the markings of Asmodeus. They bear red tinged skin, horns, and tails. This lets others know their lineage immediately, which tends to give tieflings this stereotype of evil. As a tiefling hero, you’ll be out to prove yourself to others and push through the mistakes of your ancestors, harnessing the powers of Asmodeus himself.
The powers of the Nine Hells give tieflings a great leg up on the start of their adventure. They get plenty of tools to play with, such as fire damage resistance, darkvision, and a few cantrips. These features lend the adventurer towards great adventures, having the tools to deal with both dungeons and dragons alike.
When you choose a tiefling, you choose this character that is using their lineage to fight against preconceived notions and become a true hero. What character will you create? Will it be a tiefling, or one of the other races that we’ve covered? Let me know in the comments below. Until then, keep those dice rolling high!
